2020 Christmas Decorating Trends

Christmas is well and truly in full swing at Homemaker The Valley! We have decked the halls, the Christmas trees are on full display and the Styling Suite has been transformed into a festive wonderland. With every new season comes new trends and plenty of inspiration to create a whole new look in your home for Christmas. This year, many of our retailers are showcasing a wide variety of gorgeous decorations in an array of colour palettes to match with any style of home. Below we have rounded up our favourite trends we are seeing in stores for Christmas 2020!

Australian Native

2020 has taught us to appreciate the amazing country we call home and the native landscape it offers us. We have seen this appreciation come through in the form of the ‘Australian Native’ Christmas trend this festive season. Think sage greens, soft pinks and warm tans paired with natural textures and timber accents. Motives of gumnuts, natural botanicals and a variety of leafy greens can be seen throughout home décor items such as festive plates, bowls, tea towels, napery in stores. To create the ‘Australian Native’ trend for your Christmas dining table, we recommend going for a natural theme and including plenty of greenery. Try adding a new handmade-look ceramic dinner set from Kitchen Warehouse or Freedom in a sage green or duck egg blue tone paired with linen napkins and a large vase of eucalyptus. To incorporate the Australian native theme into your gift-wrapping we recommend using neutral paper with a twine or linen bow. Provincial Home Living have a beautiful array of name tags in botanical and neutral themes that will work perfectly with this gift-wrapping style.

Keeping It Traditional

A traditional Christmas theme will never go out of style when it comes to decorating your home and filling it with festive cheer! Sticking to a classic palette of red, green, white, gold and silver is failsafe when decorating your tree, dining table and any other area of your home. We recommend adorning your dining table in a gorgeous leafy green garland and keeping your tableware simple through white ceramic plates, crystal glasses, festive napkins and traditional place cards. Stick to a metallic themed Christmas tree using predominately gold and silver decorations, whilst adding touches of green and red here and there to create contrast. Adairs have brought out some gorgeous traditional Christmas décor items this year such as their ‘Joy’ side plates, botanical mugs and quirky tea towels with puppies sporting Santa hats! TK Maxx is always a great place to pop into to find some amazing festive pieces that are sure to bring a smile to your face including cushions, throw rugs, ceramics and candles!

Luxe

The Luxe Christmas theme is huge this year for Christmas 2020! This trend is a glamorous way to see out the year in style by adding some sparkle and class to your festive decorating.

For tree decorating we recommend adorning your tree in a variety of metallic tones such as gold, silver, rose gold and brass for a statement look. Provincial Home Living and Adairs have some gorgeous baubles that suit this theme perfectly with glitter, sparkles and feathers galore! When wrapping presents in the ‘Luxe’ Christmas theme we recommend sticking to silver, gold and white wrapping paper to create a simple base. Then add two different types of ribbon and finish with a gift tag to create a statement look that will look beautiful under any tree!

Pastel

The pastel Christmas theme has been popular for quite a few years now and does not seem to be going anywhere fast! The pastel theme works perfectly in Queensland homes as it pairs well with our current trending design styles of Hamptons, Scandinavian and Minimalist. These design styles have a simple and classic colour scheme of whites and neutrals allowing the pastel colours to pop and shine. Use shades such as pink, blue, purple, cream and yellow to create a playful and bright Christmas theme in your home. Tree decorating is easy when using the pastel trend as it is as simple as layering your favourite colours all over the tree for a fun and modern vibe. Adairs have some adorable decorations that pair perfectly with this theme, so be sure to head in store soon! Try adding some colourful napkins, a bright table runner and some pastel ceramics to your Christmas dining table to complete the entire look in your home.
